SONGS OF PRAYER
But the Lord will send his mercy in the daytime, and in the night his song will be with me, a prayer to the God of my life (Psalms 42:8 BBE). Beloved of God, songs are very powerful tools in the hands of a believer. That is why you must sing songs with understanding. Songs matter in the realm of the spirit. It is prayer unto the Lord. Songs are so important such that the song of Moses outlived his age and was sung in heaven. Scripture declares Revelation 15:3-4:And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvelous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints. Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? For thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest. The believer must be one who is able pick songs in the spirit. Songs of the spirit are given by God. He gives songs in the night (Job 35:10). Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds. Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a two-edged sword in their hand (Psalm 149:5-7).
When you sing, you engage spirits (either of God or the Devil). No wonder, the pagans use songs to invoke spirits. There are various kinds of songs (songs of decrees, songs of ascent, songs of praise, songs of rejoicing, songs of love, etc.), but one important aspect of a song is that it is prayer. David understood this principle and so he said: … and in the night his song will be with me, a prayer to the God of my life. Moses and Israel sang and said:The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him (Exodus 15:2).
A song can encompass a believer and deliver him in the time of trouble. Bible declares in Psalm 32:7, thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble;thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance.
Be conscious and always sing with understanding, for your song can save you in the day of adversity. Do not sing a song because it sounds good in the ear but understand that it is prayer unto God. Walk in this reality! Shalom!
